Special Announcements

Your humble webmaster received this email from Linda Keen.  If you have a copy of the photo she is looking for please email the webmaster.

I am Linda (Bourland) Keen, daughter of PDG T.L. Les Bourland (1964-65). The new web site for District 2A2 is outstanding. I’m wondering if you could please refer me to someone who may be able to help me find a photo of my father taken with the members of the SWTX Lions Eye Bank founding board?

I recall a group photo that was taken of him and that group. Daddy passed away a few years ago, and my mother, Rosalie, and I have been unable to locate the photo. I’d be so grateful to have a copy of it, or an electronic version, or at last resort, possibly an old district newsletter with the photo, or a web link to an archive.

Keep up the good work, and thanks for your help.
Gratefully,
(Mrs.) Linda Keen

Lion Horoscope: Maybe you were talked into doing a job, but in any case, you agree to do it and there’s something terrific that hap-pens when you make good on your promises. Your confidence has its up and down moments. Move forward even though you are unsure. Success will follow.

What a great 1st Cabinet Meeting. Hats off to the Pleasanton Lions for hosting the meeting; the fish fry Friday night was fantastic and the brisket noon meal was served in plentiful por-tions. If you didn’t attend, you missed the fellowship they and all who attended had to offer. Don’t miss the next one; start planning now to attend the 2nd Cabinet Meeting in Uto-pia on October 18th. If you want to see what the Council of Governors does the 2nd Council of Governors Meeting will be in Del Rio, TX on Nov 8th.

PCC Rey Costa installed the incoming officers and IPDG Warren was presented plaques sent down by PCC Ray White from the State Convention. Some special recognition certificates were also pre-sented to the CSF II Group Coordinators for getting the Clubs in District 2A2 to donate over $94,900 in the past three years, $73,000 this year alone. We should feel proud; we saved the sight of 15,817 people. “Miracles through Service” was certainly achieved.

What a success this year’s Stride for Sight was. The goal was $35,000 and we surpassed it with donations of over $42,917. What a way to start our efforts to expand the Low Vision Center. The winner of the Carol Albright S4S Trophy was Kerrville Heart of the Hills Lions Club with a per cap-ita donation of $285. In addition, they will also receive a Miracle Circle award that they can pre-sent to one of their members. Second place went to SA Northwest Lions with a per capita of $263 and they will also receive a Life Member award. Third place with a per capita of $189 was Helotes Lions and they will receive an Associate Award that they can present to one of their members.

After the meeting we had our last “official” MERLO training session for this year. 86 Lions attended this training. I’m confident we provided the tools needed to do a great job in the elected and ap-pointed positions throughout the District. Lion Krumm from the Del Rio Host Lions came up with an idea to reward all the MERLO training attendees. He is going to donate some Merlot wine and have a drawing to thank those Lions who took time to attend the training this summer. Merlot for MERLO.
